Since June 2024, the Da Vinci Science Center has partnered with PA CareerLink® Lehigh Valley as a premier worksite for Paid Work Experience (PWE) through the Out-of-School Youth (OSY) program. The organization offers interactive science experiences, exhibits, and programs that make science fun, engaging, and accessible for learners of all ages.

Through this partnership, Da Vinci provides youth program participants with valuable work experience opportunities to build essential workplace skills, gain confidence, and support their professional development. To date, fourteen (14) youth program participants have been successfully placed at Da Vinci, with several also going on to secure permanent paid employment opportunities with the organization. One such success story is OSY participant, Natalie, whose work experience with Da Vinci helped pave the way for a paid position with the science center.
Natalie successfully completed a Paid Work Experience (PWE) at Da Vinci. During her PWE, Natalie demonstrated a strong work ethic, professionalism, and commitment to learning. She performed very well in her role and successfully developed valuable workplace skills through hands-on experience.
Following the successful completion of her PWE, Da Vinci offered Natalie a part-time position as a Visitor Services Associate. This opportunity allowed Natalie to transition directly from her work experience into unsubsidized employment, demonstrating the positive impact of work-based learning and employer partnerships.
Natalie has also continued to pursue her long-term career goals. She is currently participating in a PA CareerLink® supported training program at Berks Technical Institute (BTI), where she is working toward becoming a Clinical Certified Medical Assistant. Her continued participation in training demonstrates her commitment to building the skills and credentials necessary for future career advancement.
Reflecting on her experience with PA CareerLink®, Natalie shared:
“CareerLink has opened up opportunities that I otherwise would not have had.”
Natalie’s success demonstrates how youth program services can provide young adults with meaningful work experience, connections with local employers, and access to career training opportunities. She successfully transitioned into employment with her PWE employer and remains engaged in career-focused training as she works toward her future goals.
Natalie’s story is a strong example of how a successful employer partnership can connect work experience, employment, and continued education to create a pathway toward long-term career success.
