In July 2024, J’Livette enrolled in the WIOA In-School Youth (ISY) work-based learning program, offered in partnership with the Lehigh Valley Workforce Development Board and PA CareerLink®. A highly motivated and ambitious young woman, J’Livette was eager to gain real-world experience and develop the skills needed to launch her career.

With a strong passion for understanding human behavior and helping others, J’Livette shared with her Career Counselor her long-term goal of becoming a psychologist. She plans to earn a Bachelor’s degree, followed by a Master’s and PhD, to achieve her dream of making a difference in people’s lives.

J’Livette completed the Employability Skills curriculum, where she learned about topics including how to write a resume, strategies to answer behavioral interview questions, building a professional network, and workplace etiquette. She completed a mock interview, developed a resume, and discussed potential work sites for her Paid Work Experience (PWE) with her Career Counselor.

Recognizing J’Livette’s enthusiasm for working with people, her Career Counselor and Work-Based Training Developer connected her with the Allentown Public Library. Excited about the opportunity, J’Livette interviewed promptly and was hired for a role as a Program Assistant.

In November 2024, she began her position at the library, where she assisted patrons with library card registrations, organized books, and led arts and crafts activities for children. “I loved being recognized by the kids who come and make crafts,” J’Livette shared, reflecting on the impact she had in her role.

J’Livette completed her PWE in January 2025, but was driven to seek new, employment opportunities. In February 2025, she began working as a Sales Associate at Once Upon a Child, a children’s retail store selling gently used clothing, shoes, toys, and baby gear. She is currently on track to complete her senior year of high school in June 2025, with plans to attend Moravian University in the fall to study psychology and pursue her dream career.
