Student Intern Jenni Silfies chatted with Kurt Landes, the President and General Manager of the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, for the Business and Industry Podcast. The aim of the podcast is to inspire high school students and job seekers to explore different career paths and acquire the necessary skills for success.
The IronPigs, a minor league baseball franchise based in Allentown, Pennsylvania, is actively training players who aspire to play in the Major League alongside the Philadelphia Phillies. The IronPigs’ home stadium, Coca-Cola Park, conveniently sits near the Workforce Board Lehigh Valley and PA CareerLink® Lehigh Valley headquarters.
In this episode, Landes shares his experiences and insights on what it takes to succeed while working at the IronPigs. He emphasizes the importance of taking on internships and gaining hands-on experience in the industry, as well as building a strong network of contacts. He encourages students to take advantage of the opportunities available to them and to be open to learning new things while developing their skills.
Landes strongly believes that high school students should gain career experience by working for the IronPigs. He believes that this is the best way to help students figure out their career paths and to find a job that truly suits them. He wants to provide students with the opportunity to explore different roles and responsibilities within the organization so that they can gain a better understanding of their own interests and capabilities.
By working with IronPigs, students can gain valuable experience that will help them in future job searches and give them the skills they need to succeed in the workplace. Landes is passionate about helping high school students find their place in the world, and he is committed to helping them develop professionally through the IronPigs.
To get a better idea of how you can grow into your role at the Lehigh Valley IronPigs, the Workforce Board Lehigh Valley helped develop a career pathway for management opportunities.
