Workforce Board Lehigh Valley Executive Director Nancy Dischinat was honored with the Donley Award at The Donley Awards and Gala hosted by the Community Service Center.
She took the opportunity to reflect on her childhood experiences with her grandmother, whose influence shaped her life in profound ways. She shared a vivid memory from her youth—the day she had saved enough money from working in the blueberry fields to buy herself a new bike. Her small, frail grandmother joined her for the ride to the store. As they pedaled along, Nancy found herself growing tired. Suddenly, she realized that her grandmother had slipped off the bike, tumbling down the hill. Nancy admitted she was terrified. However, when her grandmother picked herself up, brushed off the dirt, and smiled, Nancy was surprised. Rather than expressing anger or disappointment, her grandmother encouraged her, saying, “You’re doing great, Nancy. Let’s keep going.”
This experience taught Nancy a powerful lesson about resilience and perseverance. As leaders in the workforce and in education, we must create environments that empower individuals to keep moving forward, supporting one another in the pursuit of success. Nancy’s story is a reminder that, like her grandmother, we can uplift others through our compassion and encouragement, fostering a community where everyone thrives.

Job scams are on the rise, and they’re getting more convincing.
If a job offer seems too good to be true, it probably is. Be cautious of roles that promise high pay for little work, skip formal interviews, or pressure you to act fast.
🚩Red flags to watch for:
• Requests for upfront payments (training, equipment, etc.)
• Vague job descriptions or unclear responsibilities
• Communication from unofficial email domains
• Requests for sensitive personal or banking information early on
Before saying yes, take a moment to research the company, verify the recruiter, and trust your instincts. A legitimate opportunity will never rush you or ask you to compromise your security.

On Wednesday, April 8th, several CareerLink staff members participated in a Re-entry Simulation hosted by Lafayette College. The experience was profoundly impactful and emotionally resonant. Walking through the realities faced by individuals returning to society after incarceration highlighted the many challenges that are often overlooked or taken for granted.
This simulation reinforced the importance of empathy, understanding, and community support for those navigating re-entry. It served as a powerful reminder that meaningful second chances require both awareness and action.
As April is recognized nationally as #SecondChanceMonth, CareerLink remains deeply committed to supporting returning citizens and promoting fair-chance employment opportunities. We believe in the potential of every individual and are dedicated to fostering pathways that lead to stability, dignity, and long-term success. ... See MoreSee Less
