A 59-year-old retired 30-year career Air Force veteran (PID 4074265) discharged in May of 2014. The veteran self-identified as having a 90% service-connected disability and was self-referred to PA CareerLink® Lehigh Valley, attended our monthly Veterans Job Club on 4/15/24 and the veteran subsequently met with the DVOP that same day, having been a veteran who self-identified as having a Qualifying Barrier to Employment (QBE). The DVOP reviewed the veteran’s military and civilian work history and discussed their employment goals. The veteran held several degrees both undergraduate and graduate that he obtained while he was in the service. The veteran had extensive Information Technology (IT), Project Management, and workforce development in the private sector and as a Senior Enlisted in the Air Force (E9). Over the next several months the veteran applied for numerous IT and leadership roles in the public sector and had multiple interviews, yet he was not extended an offer of employment. The DVOP administered several mock interviews and reviewed the STAR method of interviewing with them. Simultaneously, the DVOP promoted the benefits of Commonwealth employment and mentored the veteran on the application and selection process of applying for Commonwealth careers. The DVOP referred several Commonwealth IT positions to the veteran for which the veteran applied for, three of which he had interviews for. The veteran was given a verbal offer of employment on 7/15/24 for an IT Policy Associate 2 (ST08) with the Commonwealth contingent upon a successful background check. The veteran began employment on 8/12/2024 with a starting salary of $66,258 annually working remotely four days a week and one day in the office.
