Edward visited the Career Resource Center (CRC) every day, even on cold wintry days. He kept to himself, quietly browsing through job listings on the computer. One day, a CRC Career Advisor noticed that he seemed frustrated and approached him to offer assistance. Edward explained that he was interested in applying for a job he had seen online, but he didn’t know where to start.
The CRC Career Advisor patiently guided him through the process, showing him how to access the CareerLink site and how to upload his resume to the application. He shared his frustrations about struggling to navigate the job hunt on his own. The Career Advisor informed Edward about the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) program that CareerLink offers. His eyes lit up with hope as she described how the program could provide resources for job searching, resume building, and even support with job placement. It was clear that a weight had been lifted from his shoulders, as he realized he didn’t have to face this challenge alone. Edward thanked the advisor profusely, expressing his surprise at the existence of such programs designed to help people like him.
With only five minutes left until the CRC closed, he was encouraged to return the next day to work with her on completing the Welcome Center orientation process and to register for the WIOA Information Session. Edward returned to the Welcome Center on December 23rd and was scheduled to attend the WIOA Information Session on January 13. Regardless of whether Edward ultimately decides to take advantage of WIOA services, he received comprehensive information about the programs and services available at CareerLink to assist him in finding employment.
