A 37-year-old Army veteran, discharged in September 2018 and self-identified as having a 40% service-connected disability, self-referred to the Lehigh Valley PA CareerLink® DVOP for individualized career services. The veteran met with the DVOP on February 4, 2026. At the time, the veteran was employed as a dishwasher at Texas Roadhouse, despite having previously served as a cook in the Army and having completed training at UTI, earning a certification in Diesel Mechanics. Although the veteran had once been offered an opportunity with United Rentals, the position did not work out, leaving them uncertain about their next steps.
Over the months that followed, the DVOP provided ongoing career guidance and support. Early discussion centered around the possibility of obtaining a CDL to complement their diesel mechanic training. However, after thoughtful consideration, the veteran chose to shift focus toward securing full-time, stable employment in a manufacturing environment. The DVOP assisted the veteran in developing targeted résumés tailored to manufacturing roles and supported their job-search efforts through individualized coaching and ongoing encouragement.
As a result of their persistence and the DVOP’s guidance, the veteran successfully secured full-time, Monday–Friday employment with HYDAC as a Machine Operator at a starting wage of $18 per hour. The veteran began employment on May 18, 2026. This position provided the stability, schedule, and career direction the veteran had been seeking, marking a successful transition into a new and sustainable career path.
